Priorities

She cracks me up….

“Development starts in the head and moves down. If Maggie’s head isn’t secure and she doesn’t feel safe and comfortable there, she will not even consider walking. Our focus for Maggie is her head and neck strength.”

These words were from Maggie’s physical therapist. I was particularly worried after a consult with another therapist who suggested that I work on Maggie’s ability to stand. I mentioned this to our PT and she came back with this realistic response.

Cue the big sigh of relief. It was so nice to have Maggie’s care and development put into perspective. Such a gift and such a good reminder for me too: Have my head steady, and eyes affixed on the Lord and His infinite love, and then the rest of me will be able to hit the ground running.

In orthotic news, it looks like Maggie will be fitted for another helmet at the end of this month. With getting sick we hadn’t been into the office for about a month and it appears her head has grown 1 1/2 cm in that time. Things are moving right along and the helmet is doing its job.

On the books for this week is a visit with her ENT. We will hopefully see some progress with her ears. I think I had mentioned that some initial tests on her ears indicated that there was something (fluid?) in her right ear but when an ENT checked during her surgery there was nothing to be addressed so, no tubes for her ears. Well we went back to the ENT for a follow up and a new test came back showing a blockage in both ears. Hopefully with illnesses gone we are hoping for better test results that can demonstrate her ear’s ability to drain itself, otherwise she will get tubes along with separated fingers in November.

We would love your prayers for Maggie, for her ears, and her neck and head stability and in thanksgiving for the many, many answered prayers.
