Try to Keep Up Mom

The other day I did a check in on Maggie’s development using medical standards. In my book Maggie is doing awesome. She shows us constant growth in her vocabulary and pronunciation and her gross and fine motor skills. She has exceeded all of her siblings developmentally, particularly in the areas of putting away folded laundry without being asked, and ending phone conversations at the appropriate moment.

I perused the list and noticed the pen/pencil skills. The standard for the 2 year old was to be able to draw in lines and in circles. I thought, “Well I have seen her draw lines before but she isn’t drawing circles so I can work with her on that this week.”

Later that day during a conference call Maggie situated herself on Carlos’ lap and commandeered his pen. She grabbed his note paper and began to draw circles. Big circles and little circles, all over the page. She smiled at me and then asked me to draw her a cat. Oh Maggie, I can’t keep up with you.

Next month, we will have a host of appointments for Maggie. We will have her sleep study which will help us determine how well she breathes at night. It will also be a test of patience and will considering all of the cords and wires they will be placing on her.

We will also be seeing an Orthopedic. Maggie is doing pretty well when she walks holding onto our hands. She has even taken a step without either of us holding her, but she seems super hesitant. We aren’t sure if it’s a physical or spatial issue or just Maggie reasoning that it is quite a bit safer when we walk together.

Lastly, we will see her Opthalmologist. This appointment should be interesting. So, Maggie’s right eye is doing great, so great in fact that at times her left eye is starting to turn in a bit. Our nurse gave us the news that it was a positive change but to suspend the patches until our visit when they can evaluate.

If you want to join us in prayer, please do, we want to see more miracles for our Maggie!

Jesus, you are so good. You are so merciful and compassionate. You sought out those who were sick and lost, you healed anyone who asked and so we ask Jesus, continue to heal our Maggie. Make her bones strong, strengthen her joints, give her 20/20 eyesight and perfect depth perception, give her space in her nose so that she can breathe all of the oxygen you give us, and a mouth large enough to hold her precious little teeth. Most of all Jesus, give her your love, your joy, your compassion so that she can walk everyday spreading your gifts in this world. Amen.
